Chef Larry Atwater is a former United States Marine, born in Brussels, Belgium. Growing up in a food-centric family, he always had a passion for the culinary arts. His love for cooking was nurtured at an early age which helped mark his path to becoming a chef. We’re excited to welcome Chef Larry to the Sage Oak of Denton Team!
A Culinary Career
For the past decade, Chef Larry has been serving up delicious and creative dishes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. He is truly inspired by how food can tell a story and bring people together by combining rich and bold flavors.
After graduating with honors from Le Cordon Bleu and earning a degree in restaurant management, Larry began his professional cooking career with Omni Hotels. During this time, he developed and refined his culinary techniques, mastering a wide variety of fine dining cuisines for multiple outlets including hosting corporate events and weddings.
Serving Seniors
In 2017, Larry made his transition to senior living by becoming the Executive Chef for a high-end retirement community located in Dallas, Texas.
Here is where he found his love for serving seniors, their families, and the community. Chef Larry developed custom menus to fit specific dietary needs and collaborated with local vendors to get the freshest ingredients, ensuring that every meal was met with the highest resident satisfaction. Throughout his career, Chef Larry has built many lasting relationships and prides himself on connecting with each resident to provide them with excellent service.
Chef Larry is excited to join the Sage Oak family. “I am captivated by their unique style of living, personal care, and open-style kitchens that allow immediate feedback from the residents,” he shared. “I am looking forward to elevating the dining experience for senior living in the years to come.”
When not cooking and talking about food, Chef Larry enjoys spending time with his family and friends. Larry and his wife of 10 years enjoy traveling and sampling different cuisines. He is also actively involved with his son’s sports teams and is an avid Dallas Cowboys fan.
